OPUS KLASSIK 2024: we are looking for a student jury

Students from all over Germany can award their own prize in the video clip category with the OPUS KLASSIK School. From 21 May to 8 July, the young people will vote digitally and present the award themselves on 12 October.

Eine Neuerung in diesem Jahr: Ende Mai wird erstmals eine von der unabhängigen Jury des OPUS KLASSIK aus allen eingereichten Projekten ausgewählte Shortlist veröffentlicht.

OPUS KLASSIK Gala 2023

With the OPUS KLASSIK Gala 2023, the most important music prize in Germany was awarded this evening in Berlin. Violin rock star David Garrett was named “Bestseller of the Year” for his album ICONIC, Jakub Józef Orliński won in the “Singer of the Year” category and Anne- Sophie Mutterreceived the trophy for “Instrumentalist of the Year.” In her acceptance speech, she movedly referred to Daniel Barenboim's West-Eastern Diwan Orchestra, "in view of this terrible terrorist attack on Israel." "There is an incredible unifying power in music that unites us all because it accepts us as we are - regardless of our ethnicity or religious affiliation. It is a force that politicians internationally must finally become aware of. So I dedicate this OPUS KLASSIK to all those who stand up for democracy, for peace and also for music.

OPUS KLASSIK Konzert in der St. Elisabeth-Kirche

Selected prize winners opened the OPUS KLASSIK weekend in Berlin with the OPUS KLASSIK concert in St. Elisabeth Church. The cellist Tanja Tetzlaff, the Norwegian violin princess Eldbjørg Hemsing, the Saxon Wind Philharmonic, guitarist Sean Shibe and accordion virtuoso Martynas Levickisgave a unique insight into the wide range of classical music and also accepted their coveted trophy that evening.

A premiere this year: For the first time, the OPUS KLASSIK School was awarded by young people. Prize winners areMax Richter, Elena Urioste and the Chineke! Orchestrawith“The New Four Seasons: Vivaldi Recomposed”. Berlin students presented the trophy and provided an insight into their jury work.

WELT AM SONNTAG Audience Award goes to Max Volbers

This year, WELT AM SONNTAG is presenting the audience award for the best young artist of the year. Six candidates were available: Bruno Delepelaire, Jonathan Tetelman, Julia Bullock, Max Volbers, Mao Fujita and Tarmo Peltokoski. Readers were able to choose their favorite in September. And the winner was the recorder player Max Volbers. On October 8th he will be awarded the trophy in the OPUS Klassik concert hall in Berlin.

Berlin's students have voted: OPUS KLASSIK School winner has been chosen!

A premiere at the OPUS KLASSIK: For the first time, Berlin students were able to become part of the jury and award an additional prize in the “Video Clip of the Year” category with the OPUS KLASSIK School . Max Richter, Elena Urioste and the Chineke! Orchestra were able to convince the jurors with “The New Four Seasons: Vivaldi Recomposed”! The trophy will be presented personally by the students as part of the OPUS KLASSIK concert on October 7th in Berlin's St. Elisabeth Church! Tickets are available for €30 plus fees here available!

The response was huge: over 200 students between the ages of 15 and 18 voted for their favorite. The young jurors were enthusiastic about their extraordinary task: “It was something special that the rating we gave actually had an impact. Then you look at the videos again in a completely different way.” (Ewa, 16 years old)

The OPUS KLASSIK School project was developed in cooperation with Rhapsody in School Called to Life - an initiative that organizes classroom visits from classical and jazz musicians to schools in order to get more young people interested in music through inspiring encounters.
